Why gold?Because wealth needs balance.
Gold is not a promise from a company, a bank or a government. It is a scarce, globally traded physical asset that investors have used for generations alongside cash, property, shares and other investments.
Gold does not need to replace the rest of a portfolio to be useful. Its value is partly that it behaves differently.
Gold is not magic. It pays no dividend, produces no interest and its price can fall. What it offers is something different.
Why investors hold gold.
The case for gold is less about predicting tomorrow’s price and more about what the asset can contribute over time.
Diversification
Gold has historically behaved differently from many conventional financial assets. That can make it useful alongside shares, bonds, cash and property rather than as a replacement for them.
Liquidity
Gold trades through a large global market. Recognised bullion products can generally be bought and sold through dealers around the world, although the price available will always depend on the market and dealer spread.
No issuer promise
Physical gold itself is not a debt owed to you by a company or bank. There is no issuer that must remain solvent in order for the metal itself to continue to exist.
Physical means physical.
There are many ways to gain exposure to gold. We deal in the simplest one: the metal itself.
| Ownership | You own the physical bullion coin rather than a contractual claim designed to track its price. |
| Custody | Once delivered, you decide how and where the asset is stored. |
| Recognisability | Established bullion coins such as the Britannia have standard weights, specifications and widely recognised designs. |
| Portability | A significant amount of value can be held in a small physical object. |
For UK buyers, the coin matters.
Certain physical gold products have useful UK tax characteristics that other forms of gold ownership may not share.
| VAT | Gold coins meeting the statutory definition of investment gold are exempt from UK VAT. |
| Britannias | HMRC treats gold Britannias as sterling currency, so gains on them are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. |
| Other coins | Tax treatment depends on the particular coin and your circumstances. Do not assume every gold product receives identical treatment. |
| Tax rules | Rules can change. This page is general information rather than personal tax advice. |
Why we deal differently.
Bullion is a high-value purchase. We think that calls for direct communication, clarity and discretion rather than the machinery of a typical online shop.
| Direct dealing | You have one point of contact rather than being passed through a sales system. |
| Price confirmation | Gold moves constantly. We confirm the exact coin and price before asking you to pay. |
| Small range | We would rather deal well in a focused selection of recognised bullion than present hundreds of products simply to look bigger. |
| Discretion | We collect what is required to transact safely and lawfully, rather than treating every buyer as a future marketing lead. |
What we don’t do.
| Guarantee returns | Gold can rise or fall. Nobody can honestly guarantee what it will be worth in the future. |
| Give personal investment advice | We sell physical bullion. We do not tell you what percentage of your wealth should be in gold or whether it is appropriate for your circumstances. |
| Create compulsory accounts | You do not need a Bullion Boy account simply to purchase from us. |
| Build marketing profiles | A purchase does not automatically place you on a mailing list or into an advertising funnel. |
| Sell customer data | Your information is not a product. |
| Pressure a sale | If you decide not to buy, the enquiry ends there. |
Gold can diversify wealth. It cannot eliminate risk. The reason to own it should survive both rising and falling prices.
If physical gold fits what you are looking for, speak to me.
Tell me what you are considering. I will confirm what is available, the exact price and how the transaction would work before you commit to anything.
Investment risk
The value of gold can fall as well as rise. Physical bullion does not pay interest or dividends and buying and selling normally involves a dealer spread.
Tax
Tax treatment depends on the product and individual circumstances and may change. Seek professional advice where necessary.
